I Watched People With "Safe" Tech Jobs Get Replaced by a $20 AI Subscription. Here's What They Got Wrong — and What You Still Have Time to Fix
A year ago, I started warning people. Not about robots. Not about a sci-fi apocalypse. About something way more uncomfortable: a quiet, fast wealth transfer happening right now, and most people are on the wrong side of it.
Most people who heard me thought I was joining the doom crowd. They figured I was going to tell them AI was going to destroy humanity and they should be scared. That's not what I said. That's not what I mean. And honestly, that framing is the exact thing keeping people broke.
The real warning was never about AI.
I'm warning you about something far more immediate and far more dangerous: sitting on the sidelines while a massive wealth redistribution happens in real-time.
A year ago, I personally watched good people — people I knew — get let go as companies quietly swapped their roles for simple AI tools. These were not people in low-skill jobs. These were coders. Data analysts. Financial analysts. The people who spent years building skills everyone told them were untouchable.
Their skepticism bit them hard.
The "Nobody Can Do What I Do" Mindset That Cost People Their Careers
Every single one of those people thought the same thing. Nobody else can write code the way I do. Nobody else can manage these servers. Nobody else can run financial analysis at this level. Their expertise was real. Their confidence made sense — until it didn't.
Then Claude summarized 48 hours of Q4 earnings work in 2 minutes.
For a few bucks.
The skill that made them feel secure—became their blind spot. They couldn't imagine being replaced because they overestimated how specialized they were. They underestimated how fast AI was catching up. And by the time the gap closed, it was too late to course-correct.
This is not speculation. Programmer employment in the United States dropped 27.5 percent between 2023 and 2025. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has said AI could eliminate half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within five years.
This is not a future problem. This is already done. The displacement already started.
The Same Excuses, Different People
Different people, same thinking. Regular people in their 30s and 40s telling me building software is too hard. Telling me they are too old to learn something new. Using the same kind of certainty that got those coders fired — except their certainty is about their limitations, not their skills.
Both kinds of certainty are dangerous. One makes you think you cannot be replaced. The other makes you think you cannot adapt. Both lead to the same outcome.
The barrier they think exists has already disappeared.
Here's what they don't understand: There isn't a "barrier to knowledge" anymore. No-code AI tools have already torn it down. You do not need to write code from scratch. You do not need years of training. You do not need a huge budget to start.
You need a computer, an internet connection, and the willingness to learn one thing and build from there.
Trading Fear for Curiosity
I want to be honest about this. When I first started, I was confused. I was intimidated. None of it felt natural.
Then I made one decision that changed everything: I stopped trying to understand all of it and just learned one function inside one tool — GHL. That's it. One function. And the moment I could do that one thing, the next thing felt possible. Then the next.
There was no big moment. No lightning bolt. I just learned one thing, and that made the second thing easier, and the second made the third easier. That is how every person who builds something actually starts — not with a full plan, but with one small foothold.
That's when I traded fear for curiosity. And curiosity turned out to be worth a lot more than fear ever gave me.
The people who actually start do one thing differently in week one. They look for what they already understand and use that as a bridge to what they do not understand yet. They do not wait until they feel ready. They move while uncomfortable.
76 percent of developers are already using or planning to use AI tools. The distance between people who pushed through initial discomfort and people who didn't is getting wider every week.
The Mental Model That's Keeping You Broke
Here is the core problem most people never even realize they have. They are still thinking in a straight line: hours worked equals money earned. More hours, more money. Less hours, less money. That's the whole model.
That model made sense in a different economy. In this one, it is a trap. You can only work so many hours. Your ceiling is built into the model itself.
That model does not work the same way anymore.
The shift is this: Stop asking how many hours you can work. Start asking what problem you can solve for someone else, and what solving that problem is actually worth to them.
When you anchor your value to outcomes instead of time, the ceiling disappears.
When someone comes to me still stuck in that linear mindset, I do not argue with them. I let them talk. Not enough time. Not enough money. No freedom. Coworkers who drain them. A boss they resent. Zero control over their own day.
I wait until they finish. Then I ask one question: "What part of that do you enjoy most?"
The pause that follows tells you everything. Because most people have never been asked that. They have been so busy surviving the system they never stopped to ask whether any of it was working for them.
The Wealth Transfer Is Already Happening. Most People Do Not Know They Are on the Wrong Side of It
While people argue about whether AI is good or bad, something concrete is already done. Money is moving. Markets are shifting. A new class of builders is forming.
Andrew McAfee, principal researcher at MIT, put it plainly: "Going back over 100 years of data, we have never seen wealth created at this size and speed. It's unprecedented."
The top seven tech companies added five trillion dollars in market value since 2023. At the same time, 14 percent of all workers have already been displaced by AI.
The transfer is live. The question is not whether it is happening. The question is which side of it you end up on. Are you building the tools, or paying rent to whoever built them?
Every major technology shift in history created a new group of people who got wealthy — and a much larger group who watched them do it. The internet. Personal computers. Mobile. Every single time, the window to get in early was short, and most people missed it.
The builders who adopt AI early and integrate it deeply will take outsized returns. The people who delay will find themselves locked out of markets that AI-powered competitors already own.
Ask Yourself Who Actually Benefits From Your Fear
There is a whole industry built around making you afraid of AI. Articles. Predictions. Calls for regulation. Warnings about job apocalypse. Every piece of that content has the same effect: it keeps you frozen while other people move.
That is not a coincidence. Follow the money. The people screaming loudest about AI danger are often the same people who profit when you stay confused, stay dependent, and keep paying for their courses, their platforms, their gatekeeping.
Ask yourself honestly: who benefits from your fear?
It is not the person who built an AI-powered SaaS and now has recurring monthly revenue. It is not the entrepreneur who figured out how to solve a real problem with tools anyone can access. It is the people who need you to believe building is too hard, too technical, and too risky — because that belief is what they sell against.
The actual threat is not AI taking your job. The actual threat is watching AI-leveraged builders take your entire market while you waited to feel ready.
41 percent of employers worldwide plan to cut headcount in the next five years because of AI. The people who know how to build with AI will be the ones capturing that value. The people who don't will be the ones displaced by it.
The Opportunity Is Sitting Right Here. Fear Is the Only Wall Left
AI has made building and scaling a software business more accessible than it has ever been in history.
SaaS revenue is expected to hit 818 billion dollars by 2029. The most profitable products in this space solve boring, recurring business problems: content tools, niche CRMs, workflow automation, analytics dashboards, billing software. Nothing flashy. Steady, monthly, compounding revenue.
These tools generate consistent income because they solve ongoing problems. Businesses do not cancel tools that save them time and money. That is the model.
The cost to enter has dropped to almost nothing. The tools are available to anyone. The market is large and growing fast.
And yet most people have not started. Not because they cannot. Because they are afraid.
That is the only wall left. The biggest opportunity most of us will see in our lifetimes is sitting right there, and the only thing guarding it is a feeling.
You Have One Decision to Make
This comes down to a single choice, and it is not complicated.
You can keep reading about AI dangers, stay in the time-for-money trap, and hope your job survives the next round of cuts. That is a choice. A lot of people are making it right now.
Or you can recognize that the early-mover window is closing, that the barrier you think is blocking you is already gone, and that the only thing left to do is start.
I have been saying this for a year. The people who heard it and moved are already profitable. The people who waited are watching the gap between them and those builders grow wider every single week.
The knowledge barrier is gone. The tools are accessible. The market is proven. None of the excuses are real anymore.
The only question that matters now: are you going to be disrupted, or are you going to do the disrupting?
Your skepticism will not protect you. Your excuses will not save your position. Your fear will not stop the wealth transfer that is already underway.
But learning one thing — just one thing — and building from there?
That is how every person who escaped the default path actually started. And there is no reason you cannot be next.
